Member for Fairfax and Federal Leader of the Palmer United Party, Mr Clive Palmer MP, has applauded eight local sport stars from his electorate who were recently presented with a Sport Achievement Award in recognition of their outstanding sporting performances.
Nambour State High School’s Year 11 volleyball team – Kate Baguley, Kate Day, Sophie Day, Ryley Torr, Hayley Bimrose, Chloe Hall, Bonnie Searle and Oakleigh Wilson – all received the prestigious certificate from The Hon Sussan Ley MP, Minister for Health and Minister for Sport, and Mr Clive Palmer MP.
The team won gold for their school at this year’s Volleyball Queensland Senior Schools’ Cup, a competition for year 11 and year 12 high school students.
“My warmest congratulations go to the Nambour Thunder volleyball team for their third consecutive triumph at the Volleyball Queensland Senior Schools’ Cup competition,” Mr Palmer said.
“Unsurprisingly, this outstanding team has also enjoyed success at national level at the Australian Volleyball Schools’ Cup in Melbourne.”
“The entire team, along with their dedicated sports teachers, deserve huge credit. Their countless hours of training, commitment and enthusiasm have paid off with performances to be proud of.
“These fine young Australians are an inspiration to the youth of today and wonderful ambassadors for their local community.”
The Australian Government’s Sport Achievement Award was introduced in 2002 to recognise outstanding sporting performances, achievements and contributions by community members.
